The small local harbour is buzzing with activity during the spring & summer months. Local fishermen bring in abundances of fresh lobster and snow crab on a daily basis while 4 small whale watching companies offer incredible whale watching experiences by means of larger converted fishing vessels or speedy Zodiac boats. Pleasant Bay has been called the Whale Watching Capital of Nova Scotia and was recently acknowledged as one of the top whale watching destinations in North America by Reader's Digest Magazine. During the months of May through October, the waters below the Mid-Trail serve as a feeding and breeding habitat for virtually all types of whales including Pilot Whales, Minke Whales, Fin Backs, Humpbacks and even enormous Blue Whales on occasion! Whale Watching excursions are offered several times daily and are located within a short walk of the Mid-Trail. Eagles, seals, sharks and even sea turtles are often spotted on these trips as well. Whale Watching in Pleasant Bay is a big favorite among travelers of all types and must be experienced to appreciate.
